Srinagar, Jul 27: In line with the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the functioning of its offices, a team of senior officers from the Administrative Reforms Inspections Department, led by Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar, Secretary Technical Administrative Reforms Inspections and Trainings Department, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the State Handloom Development Corporation.
This inspection aimed to assess the operational functionalities and introduce further reforms to promote transparency and accountability within the system. The team inspected records, materials and had detailed discussions with officials of the Corporation.
Atul Sharma, Managing Director of J&K Handloom Development Corporation Limited, briefed the Secretary about the functioning and other developmental programmes of the Corporation and welcomed the efforts of the Administrative Reforms Inspections and Trainings and Trainings Department, which will go a long way further strengthen the corporation and streamlining the Corporation and development of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir, with a rich historical and cultural heritage, is known for its diverse and stunning geography. The region’s traditional handloom weaving, renowned worldwide, plays a significant role in its cultural identity. The unique designs and locally produced raw materials such as pashmina, silk, and wool, have made this craft an integral part of J&K’s legacy. Additionally, traditional handloom weaving provides employment to a substantial portion of the local workforce.
The J&K State Handloom Development Corporation Limited was established to support and promote the decentralized handloom sector. Its mission includes implementing centrally sponsored handloom projects initiated by the Government of India, thereby preserving the craft and supporting the artisans.
These administrative inspections underscore the government’s and the ARI and Trainings Department’s commitment towards ensuring compliance with regulations, procedures, and policies for the development of Jammu and Kashmir. The efforts aim to foster an environment of growth and accountability, furthering the region’s economic and cultural prosperity, maintained Dr. Kabir.
