Police recover illicit timber in Baramulla, 5 accused held

Srinagr, Aug 14: Police in Baramulla have recovered illicit timber in Bijhama, Churanda Uri and arrested 5 accused persons involved in the commission of crime.
Acting on reliable information, police recovered 24 logs of illicit Deodar timber in Bijhama, Baramulla. The accused identified as Abdul Jabar Mir son of Ghulam Qadir and Abdul Jabar Mir son of Abdul Gaffar, both residents of Mayan Bijhama, were transporting the illegal timber from nearby forests towards Hilpathribal. Similarly, acting on reliable information, police recovered 15 logs of illicit Deodar timber in Bijhama, Baramulla. The accused identified as Mohd Sultan Lone son of Gh Qadir & Ali Mohd Sheikh son of Ab Jabar both residents of Kathihal Pathribal, were transporting the illegal timber from nearby forests towards Daryana Mayan.
In addition, acting on reliable information, police recovered 20 logs of illicit Deodar timber in Churanda Uri. The accused identified as Mohd Shafi Khatana son of Siyan Khatana resident of Churanda Uri, was transporting the illegal timber from nearby forests towards Churunda.
All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Bijhama & PS Uri where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.
The police will continue its drive against timber smugglers to protect the environment and ensure the preservation of our natural resources. This action reaffirms our commitment to keeping our society free of crime and taking strict action against those involved in criminal activities.
