Srinagar, Aug 19: The recently relocated Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Bemina, Srinagar, has come under fire from both the public and employees due to the absence of basic amenities. The office, which was moved from Batamaloo to Bemina with the expectation of improving services and accessibility, has instead drawn criticism for its shortcomings.
Several people, including employees, expressed their frustration about the lack of essential facilities such as a food and tea canteen at the new location.
A local resident from Srinagar, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the new office, which was meant to provide a more spacious and accessible environment, has become problematic for visitors.
“Firstly, the office is located in an area with no direct transport access. Additionally, there is no provision for drinking water, benches to sit on, or even a canteen where one could get a cup of tea,” he lamented.
Another visitor to the RTO office said he faced difficulties upon arrival due to the absence of a proper road leading to the office. “The uneven path has made it particularly challenging for individuals with disabilities or the elderly to access the facility,” he said.
Inside the office, visitors and employees alike are reportedly deprived of basic necessities, with no drinking water or canteen available, forcing them to go without for extended periods. Many visitors have called for immediate action to address these issues, urging the authorities to improve the basic facilities at the RTO office.
However, a senior official at RTO Kashmir refuted the claims regarding the lack of facilities at the new Bemina office.
The official said that while most amenities were available, a canteen had not yet been established as the building had not been fully taken over officially. (KNO)
