Chief Secretary reviews preparations for Independence Day celebration

Jammu, Aug 23: As the notification for the first phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir was issued, National Conference’s Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy became the first candidate from any major political party to file his nomination papers from Chenab Valley.
Suharwardy, accompanied by dozens of his supporters, reached the Returning Officer (RO) at Deputy Commissioner’s office in Doda and filed his nomination papers on NC’s ticket.
The NC leaders and workers raised slogans in favour of NC president Farooq Abdullah, vice president Omar Abdullah in jubilation and thanked the party for giving mandate to Suharwardy as INDIA bloc candidate.
No major political party has issued any formal list of candidates for eight seats of Chenab valley comprising Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts but Suharwardy carried the official communication from NC to file his nomination papers.
Neither Congress party nor Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has issued the list of candidates as the deliberations are still being held to finalise the candidates.
Even as the NC believes that they have got the Doda seat in NC-Congress alliance but Congress probable candidate is waiting for a final direction from the party high command to prepare the future strategy.
On the eight seats of Chenab valley many big names are expected to contest the elections including NC’s Sajad Ahmed Kichloo from Kishtwar, BJP’s Sunil Sharma from Padder-Nagseni, DPAP’s G M Saroori from Inderwal, BJP’s Daleep Parihar and Shakti Parihar from Bhaderwah and Doda West, respectively, Congress party’s Riaz Ahmed Sheikh and Nadeem Sharief from Doda and Bhaderwah respectively and former Congress President Vikar Rasool from Banihal.
Former minister Abdul Majeed Wani may also contest from Doda.
