Srinagar, Aug 3: A policeman and a civilian were injured when suspected militants attacked the police vehicle at Khanyar area of Srinagar on Tuesday, officials said.
Police sources said that the suspected militants attacked the police party of Kahnayar police station at Sheeraz Chowk, Khanyar. “In the attack, one policeman and a civilian sustained injuries,” they said.
They said that injured policeman and the civilian were shifted to nearby Rainawari hospital, where both are stable. Meanwhile, police launched a massive search operation in the area after the attack.
A police spokesman in a statement issued to KNO that that this evening, militants fired upon a Police party near Sheeraz Chowk area of Srinagar. “Senior police officers reached the spot to assess the situation,” the spokesman said.
He said that preliminary investigation has revealed that militants had fired upon Police party of Police Station Khanyar near Sheeraz Chowk area of Srinagar. “In this incident, one Policeman and a civilian sustained bullet injuries who were immediately shifted to hospital for the treatment. The injured Police personnel has been identified as Ct. Abdul Waheed, posted at Police Station Khanyar, while as injured civilian has been identified as Ishtiyaq Ahmad Bazaz son of Ghulam Mohammad Bazaz resident of Nowshera, Srinagar. The condition of both the injured is stated to be stable,” the police spokesman said.
Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” the police spokesman said. (KNO)
