Srinagar, Sep 25: Once the hotbed for the stone pelting especially on the poll-day, the polling booth set up for Anchar locality in Soura area here witnessed smooth polling where the smoke of tear gas shells was replaced with the fervor of fearless voting.
A different situation was witnessed at Soura locality as the people in large numbers were seen sitting inside as well as outside the polling booth set up for two different constituencies—Zadibal and Hazratbal.
The polling booth for Anchar locality was also established at the same place—A government school building.
Unlike previous elections, the polling station was remaining out of bounds for the voters as the stone pelting was taking place outside the booth throughout the day. However, the situation was quite different this time as the voters including both young and old were seen visiting the booth and talking to each other about the polling.
Ali Muhammad, one of the voters, sitting close to the polling booth in the premises of the government school, said that the time flies as it is for the first time that the people are choosing their candidates with high hopes. “The people sitting around me have not voted for any particular candidates but chose different candidates as per their choice, but one thing is common that we are voting for our rights and dignity. We want that the people who snatched our rights should remain at bay,” he said.
Many of his mates echoed the similar views and said they don’t even know the candidates in the fray, but they have voted for the parties, who they believe will put their efforts to save their dignity and rights. “It is not our right and dignity only, but the parties we are choosing also fall in the same line. This dignity is must for them as well,” they said.
