Srinagar, Sep 27: Senior PDP leader Waheed ur Rehman Parra said that his party has always supported Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and has no objections to joining hands with them.
Speaking to reporters, Parra demanded that the ban on JeI be lifted.
“We have always supported JeI. We have no issues in joining hands with them. JeI is a socio-religious organization that works for the welfare of the people. The ban on JeI should be lifted so they can participate in the electoral process, which is their democratic right,” Parra said.
The PDP leader also called for the release of political prisoners. “Mian Qayoom, Nazir Ahmad Ronga of the Bar Association, and Hurriyat leaders languishing in jails should be released. Youth should also be freed, and cases against them should be withdrawn,” Parra demanded.
He expressed confidence that the people of north Kashmir would support the PDP since they are fighting against the abrogation of Article 370.
“Authorities tried to decimate the PDP because we are at the forefront of the fight against the abrogation of Article 370. But we are continuing to resist the decisions made since 2019. Based on this, we hope the people will vote for us,” Parra said.
He also claimed that NC MPs failed to move a bill against the abrogation of Article 370.
“These NC MPs are now fooling people. They could have at least moved a private bill against the abrogation of Article 370, even if they did not receive the necessary support,” Parra concluded.
