Weddings: Sound of celebration or disturbance?

The weddings are grand affairs steeped in culture and joy in the Kashmir Valley. However, the festivities and the fatty weddings in Kashmir are known to all. But, some of the issues that need to be curbed at an earliest so that the common masses living close to the vicinity will not face any hardships. One of the growing concerns that looms is the use of loudspeakers during these events. Kashmiri weddings are rich tapestries of tradition, music, and dance. However, the volume at which these celebrations are conducted often disrupts the tranquility of the neighborhoods, turning what should be a joyous occasion into a source of irritation for many. The use of loudspeakers is not merely a matter of personal choice; it has broader implications for community harmony. Many residents, particularly the elderly, children, and those with health concerns, find it challenging to cope with the overwhelming noise. For them, the celebratory beats become an unwelcome invasion of their peace, turning joyous festivities into a nuisance. Moreover, the proliferation of loudspeakers raises concerns about adherence to regulations aimed at controlling noise pollution. The existing laws regarding sound levels during public celebrations are often overlooked, leading to a cacophony that drowns out the natural beauty of our environment and disrupts daily life. The people must remember that the rights to celebrate should not come at the expense of others’ right to peace and quiet.
