It has been over one and a half weeks since the people across Srinagar City area— Habba Kadal are grappling with the issue of water scarcity, thereby disrupting daily life and raising concerns about public health and sanitation. The once-thriving water supply systems of our city, which rely on the abundant natural resources surrounding us, are now strained. Several factors have contributed to this alarming situation, including erratic weather patterns, increased consumption due to rising temperatures, and infrastructural deficiencies in the water distribution network. These issues have resulted in dry taps and long queues at public water sources, leaving many families, especially those in underserved areas, to face the brunt of this crisis. The impact of water scarcity goes beyond mere inconvenience. It poses serious risks to health and hygiene, particularly for vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly. Without access to clean water, the chances of waterborne diseases increase, further straining our already burdened healthcare system. Moreover, the psychological toll of living without a basic necessity cannot be understated, as families are left to navigate the daily stress of securing this essential resource. The residents living in Habba Kadal areas have even taken to the streets multiple times so far to press for their demands of adequate water supply, but unfortunately all in vain. The current situation serves as a wake-up call for all, especially to the people at the helm of affairs to take action. It is time to come together as a community and demand the change necessary to secure our future. Srinagar deserves better, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our city rises to the challenge.
