Srinagar, Oct 14: The residents of Zewan, on the outskirts of Srinagar, are reeling from unscheduled power cuts, leaving them frustrated and disillusioned.
“We are fed up with these frequent and unannounced power outages,” said Showkat Ahmad, a local resident.
“Our daily lives have been severely disrupted, and our children’s education is suffering due to the lack of electricity,” he added.
The area, which is home to thousands of families, has been experiencing power cuts lasting up to 6 hours a day. “It’s unbearable. We are frustrated by not knowing whom to contact and who will address our problem. The concerned department officials care of fig when we approach them,” said Rafiqa Bano, a homemaker.
The residents have appealed to the Power Development Department (PDD) Commissioner Secretary to address the issue urgently. “We pay our electricity bills on time, but the PDD fails to provide us with uninterrupted power supply,” said Abdul Rashid, a local businessman.
When contacted, a PDD official attributed the power cuts to “technical glitches” and assured that the issue would be resolved soon.
“We have been hearing the same excuses for years,” said Showkat. “It’s time for the authorities to take concrete action and provide us with a reliable power supply.”
The unscheduled power cuts have also affected the local economy, with businesses suffering losses due to the lack of electricity. “Our sales have dropped significantly, and we are struggling to make ends meet,” said Bilal Ahmad, a shopkeeper.
The residents have threatened to stage protests if the issue is not resolved soon. “We will take to the streets if our pleas continue to fall on deaf ears,” warned Abdul Rashid. [KNT]
