Srinagar, Oct 16: Omar Abdullah, who was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today, is set to convene his government’s first cabinet meeting tomorrow.
The resolution calling for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood is likely to be passed unanimously during the session.
The resolution will reinforce the government’s commitment to press the central government for the reinstatement of full statehood, a demand that has gained momentum across political lines since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.
Omar Abdullah, the leader of the National Conference (NC), took his oath as Chief Minister on Tuesday in a ceremony presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Apart from the anticipated statehood resolution, the cabinet will also focus on pressing administrative issues and lay out the new government’s plans.
The newly-formed government is set to review major administrative concerns. Streamlining governance, addressing public grievances, and ensuring transparency in bureaucratic processes will be top priorities.
The meeting will review ongoing development projects.
The government is expected to prioritize improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.
The cabinet meeting marks Omar Abdullah’s return to leadership after years of political uncertainty in the Jammu and Kashmir.
On the day before the crucial cabinet meeting, Omar Abdullah is also scheduled to meet with secretaries and key officers in the Civil Secretariat to discuss administrative and governance matters. These meetings are aimed at setting the tone for his government’s functioning, ensuring efficient collaboration between the executive and the bureaucracy.
