Srinagar, Oct 30: With Diwali just around the corner, markets are buzzing with shoppers eager to celebrate the festival of lights.
Stalls and shops across the City are packed with firecrackers, sweets, decorations, and festive goods, as people gear up for one of the most cherished festivals.
As Diwali approaches, the markets in Srinagar are showing a notable increase in shoppers, with people eager to celebrate the festival of lights and coming in good numbers.
One of the shoppers in Srinagar said that this year, the demand for firecrackers is very high. “We have already sold more than half of our stock, and we are bringing in more every day,” he said.
He added that despite recent moves to encourage eco-friendly celebrations, traditional fireworks remain a popular choice for many families.
Meanwhile, sweet shops are also witnessing a rush, with customers picking up boxes of sweets to share with family and friends. “Our kaju katli and gulab jamuns, including ladoo, are selling like hotcakes, and we are also restocking them,” said Joginder, an owner of Shakti Sweets in Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
Notably, shoppers express excitement for the season.
Aniket Sharma, a local, said, “For us, Diwali is incomplete without fireworks. I know there are alternatives, but a few sparkles and sounds bring back the joy of childhood.”
Another local, Amit, said, “Diwali brings families together. This is one time when everyone shops for the home and for each other, which feels special.”
