Jammu, Aug 9: Police and army continued massive search operations in the woods of Thanmandi in Rajouri district for the fourth day, officials said.
A police officer said after two militants were killed on August 7, searches were continuing in the remote village of Pangai, which is in a forested area of Thanmandi.
A joint cordon and search operation was launched by the Indian Army and police based on specific intelligence inputs four days ago, officials said.
During the operation on Friday, a fierce gun fight took place, leading to killing of two militants who are unidentified so far even as a family from Shopian approached police, claiming that one of the slain was their kin.
Officials said that family of one Rameez Ahmad Tantray (23) Jamnagery Shopian approached the police following which DNA sampling was done.
Rameez was missing from the home since 2018 and in this connection a missing report stands lodged in the Herpora police station, they said.
The family members left for Shopian after the police officers assured them of verifying their claims in light of the awaiting DNA reports. (GNS)
