Aaqib Khan

Srinagar, Nov 8: In J&K Legislative Assembly, MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan delivered a powerful speech emphasizing the importance of restoring the special status and statehood of J&K. He argued that the recent resolution moved in the assembly reflected the true intentions of the house. He eloquently argued that any resolution aiming to reinstate J&K’s special status must necessarily encompass both Article 370 and 35A.He further clarified that Article 370 was a solemn agreement with the people of J&K and not a Pakistani agenda as claimed by some of the other members of house.
MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan expressed his disagreement with the Supreme Court’s interpretation of Article 370, on declaring the article unconstitutional. He challenged those who opposed Article 370, questioning whether they believed themselves to be wiser than the visionary forefathers who crafted the Indian Constitution, including this provision. His thought-provoking remarks underscored the deep-rooted historical significance of Article 370 in shaping the identity and rights of the region.
He stressed that statehood was not just a constitutional right but a promise made to the people of J&K at the inception of the Constitution in 1950. Additionally, he highlighted the unprecedented nature of reducing J&K to a Union territory without the consent of the legislative assembly, calling for the restoration of statehood to uphold the dignity of the region’s residents. He expressed his intent to appeal to the Supreme Court for further clarification and urged the government to act promptly on this matter and give back the statehood status to Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible.
He further said that when he took the matter of Article 370 to the Supreme Court, the first question was on the way the Parliament and the Governor did things was not right. The second big question was whether it was okay for the government to turn our state into a Union territory without the consent of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly. This was the first time such a thing happened in India’s history. The answer on these questions was that it’s just temporary, and they’ll give back our statehood status soon. But they haven’t give it back yet.
Muzaffar Iqbal Khan said that he will go back to the Supreme Court to ask about the Statement given by Attorney General of India in front of Constitutional bench that the statehood of J&K will restore soon. He believes that having our state back is not just about having a government, but it’s also about the respect and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He asks Union Government to give back our statehood status as soon as possible.
