Srinagar, Nov 9: National Conference leader and Member Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmed has expressed strong concerns over the poor condition and delayed construction of the 220-kilometer Jammu-Poonch highway, a vital strategic route in Jammu and Kashmir. The highway’s deteriorating state has caused significant inconvenience to the public and impacted regional connectivity.
Mian Altaf criticized the slow pace of work by the Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) Beacon unit, responsible for maintaining the highway. He emphasized that the project’s delays have undermined the road’s strategic value, crucial for the movement of people and goods within Jammu and Kashmir. “The highway is in a dilapidated state, causing major inconvenience to the public. The slow progress on this important project has marred the purpose of this strategically important route,” he stated.
The Rajouri-Thanamandi-Bafliaz section, part of the 220-kilometer stretch, is particularly important for connecting Srinagar to Jammu and the twin border districts. Mian Altaf urged the BRO to expedite work on this section, vital for improving accessibility and fostering economic and social ties between these regions.
Mian Altaf appealed to the relevant authorities to prioritize this project, ensuring the highway’s construction and maintenance needs are met promptly to restore its full functionality and strategic significance. [KNT]
