Jammu, Nov 25: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Monday said that 90 percent of the work on the Jammu Tawi River Front project has been completed and the site will soon draw a large number of domestic and international tourists.
“This was a challenging project, but credit goes to the Smart City team for their dedicated efforts. The Jhelum Tawi River Front work is nearing completion, with 90 percent of the work finished and the remaining portion to be completed by January next year,” the Lt Governor said while speaking to reporters during a site visit.
He said that the project will serve as a significant attraction for tourists from across the country and abroad.
The Lt Governor further announced plans for phase two of the project, which involves the development of a township along the banks of the Tawi River. “This new township is expected to become a major draw for both domestic and international visitors,” he said.
The Lt Governor said that soon, evenings in Jammu will resemble those of Lucknow. The Lieutenant Governor directed the officers and implementing agencies to accelerate the pace of work for completion of the prestigious project in a time-bound manner.
The Lt Govenor said that many other projects and initiatives like Jambu Zoo, Light & Sound Show, Temple of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams etc have already been completed to further increase the tourism potential of Jammu Division.
“Around 5000-6000 people are visiting Suchetgarh and Tirumala Tirupati Temple every day. The number increases during the weekend,” he said. “Efforts are being made to create more such destinations in Jammu city and Jammu region with the assistance of the Government of India. I congratulate Jammu Smart City, it was a difficult project, I hope that the people of Jammu will enjoy the Tawi Riverfront.”
The Lt Governor was accompanied by Chief Secretary Atal Dullo, Additional Chief Secretary Shaleen Kabra; Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor and Commissioner/Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department Mandeep Kour. Senior officials of Smart City Ltd were also present.
