Srinagar, Nov 28: Amidst the forecast of light wet spell, the minimum temperature has plummeted and settled below freezing point across Kashmir with many of the stations including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recording the season’s coldest night.
The night temperature in Srinagar settled at minus 2.1 degree Celsius, which was the lowest of the season so far.
Shopian was, however, the coldest place in Kashmir where the mercury plummeted and settled at minus 5.5 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, recorded minus 5.0 degree Celsius while Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort recorded a low of minus 2.5 degree Celsius.
Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.0 degree Celsius while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.3 degree Celsius.
In Kokernag, the mercury settled at 0.2 degree, the MeT officials said while predicting a further dip in the night temperature in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday.
Notably, the weatherman has predicted back-to-back Western Disturbances in Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow evening, saying that light rains and snowfall is expected during the next few days.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is a possibility that the weather would remain cloudy while light snowfall is expected in Bandipora and Kupwara higher reaches from November 29 late evening.
“These higher reaches may also receive light snowfall on December 01 while the rains would lash plains in between December 2 and 3,” he said, adding that all the WDs affecting J&K are feeble.
As per the details, the weather would remain generally dry from December 4-6 while another light wet spell is expected between December 7 and 8 during which light rains and light snowfall in the higher reaches at isolated places are expected.
However, he said that no major activity is expected during the period.
Meanwhile, the MeT has also issued an advisory, advising the tourists, travelers, transporters to follow administration and traffic advisory. (KNO)
