Ganderbal, Dec 3: The residents of several areas including the far-off villages in Ganderbal district are facing acute water scarcity as the majority of the water supply schemes as well as the plants are lying defunct.
The local residents from different areas of Ganderbal including those living in the far-flung villages have expressed their resentment against the Jal Shakti Department (PHE) for failing to ensure adequate water supply to them.
“Though Water Supply schemes including filtration plants are existing in almost every area since decades but most of the schemes are defunct and various plants need revival,” the locals said.
They added that the infrastructure of such plants established almost four decades ago have expired. “However, a district action plan under Jal Jeevan Mission for augmentation and retrofitting of various water supply schemes across Ganderbal was mulled last year with the approval of Rs 66 crore, which has been executed but not finished yet,” they said.
With the result, the locals said the water supply in various areas remains affected.
Executive Engineer Jal Shakti department said that out of nine projects, three have been completed and the rest six are about to be completed.
