Time to act against habitual offenders

The traffic congestion amidst the rise in road accidents across Jammu and Kashmir, has turned out to be a messy affair with people remaining stuck for a longer period to reach their destinations. However, the government took a measure step to act against the norm violations, which has ended up in streamline the traffic scenario, especially in the Valley as the roads are witnessing a thin movement of vehicles compared to the last two months and also the illegal parking on the roadside has witnessed an improvement as well. With the government preferring to issue e-challan to the vehicles involved in the norm violations, it has been observed that majority of such vehicle owners don’t pay the fine for a longer period. The numbers of such vehicles have been even made public by the authorities several times, asking them to pay the fine without any further delay. After back-to-back appeals, the government has decided to act tough against the norm violators and planned to seize such vehicles and also suspend the Registration Certificates (RCs) of those who don’t pay their fine at earliest. Such a measure, if acted upon, will certainly bring more changes related to the streamlining of traffic on the ground and would help in curbing the norm violations further. It is the time, when the authorities should start acting upon the habitual offenders and start targeting the owners for not paying the fine.
