The drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as a new threat as hundreds of youth are getting involved in such a nuisance, which has turned out to be a major and serious concern for the whole society. Since the government’s efforts are going on to eliminate the menace, but the present situation wherein the involvement of women is found in the illicit drug trade is the serious concern as their involvement can add to the already fragile situation in the Union Territory. In the past couple of days, several women have been arrested along with the drugs across Jammu and Kashmir. The women, known for her role in upbringing the society by playing the role of a mother, teacher, sister and a wife as well. However, her involvement in drug peddling will have a serious repercussions within the society. One cannot imagine that a woman, who has been given the highest place in the Islam as well as in this society, get involved in the drug menace and ruin the lives of the youngsters. Instead of playing a role as a rescuer, some of the women for their vested interests are rubbing the salt on the wounds of people by getting directly involved in illicit drug trade. The womenfolk must understand it’s role at this juncture and try to douse the flames as a mother, sister, wife or a friend by taking the drug addict youth towards the drug de-addiction centre rather than pushing them towards the drugs that could further ruin their lives. It is the time when the womenfolk must understand it’s role and stop getting involved in illicit drug trade and help the society to win a war against the drug menace.
