Water scarcity hits multiple localities of Nishat

Srinagar, Dec 20: Residents in multiple areas of Nishat, on the outskirts of Srinagar, are grappling with acute water scarcity, causing inconvenience to their daily lives.
The affected areas include Brein, Ishber, and Gupkar Mohalla, where residents report inconsistent water supply over the past few weeks.
Local residents expressed growing frustration. “We are forced to fetch water from nearby streams and wells. The situation is unbearable, especially during the winter when water is a basic necessity,” said Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Brein.
Another resident, Shaista Akhtar, highlighted the difficulties faced by women in managing household chores. “We are spending hours waiting for water tankers or collecting water from distant sources. It’s a daily struggle, and no permanent solution has been provided so far,” she said.
An official from the Public Health Engineering Department acknowledged the problem, attributing it to the ongoing repair work on the main water pipeline. [KNT]
