Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

The situation is improving at Badhaal area of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir after 17 deaths due to the reasons, which remained hidden so far despite the government claiming that all the tests were found negative. Multiple statements have been made by the government, claiming that there was no influenza or virus involved in the deaths occurring in Rajouri. With the investigation going on, there is no end to the mystery as the authorities have so far failed to reach any conclusion and identify the reasons behind the deaths. While the loss of lives seemingly witnessing an end, it is imperative for the authorities to speed up the investigation and ascertain the real causes behind the deaths. At this juncture, the responsibility lies with the teams formed to investigate the matter and prioritize the case. The investigation teams should pursue all the leads to ensure that the real cause of deaths is ascertained without any further delay. Nearly two months have elapsed since the deaths take place in the hamlet, but solving the mystery has now raised a question on the authorities. The people, who have borne the brunt of the ‘mysterious illness’ deserve the answer from the administration for which the investigation must be expedited in every aspect so that the mystery is solved and the requisite measures are taken to prevent further loss of lives in the village. It is high time for the probe teams to come up with the reasons behind the deaths so that there would be no trust-deficit and also the hopes will remain alive in the government.
