New Delhi, Feb 13: The Union Government has allocated Rs 5,835 crore for Jammu and Kashmir and Rs 876 crore for Ladakh to strengthen power infrastructure under various central schemes.
The information was provided in an official response in the Lok Sabha, outlining the financial support extended to the two Union Territories through government initiatives.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Rs 5,835 crore allocation is being utilized under several schemes, including the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which aims to reduce power losses and improve the efficiency of electricity distribution, the response reads.
Also, the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) focuses on strengthening the urban electricity network, while the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) is dedicated to rural electrification and feeder segregation, it added.
The Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) is also being implemented to enhance overall infrastructure in the region.
Ladakh, which has received Rs 876 crore, is focusing its investments on improving electricity transmission and last-mile connectivity, particularly in remote and high-altitude areas.
A significant portion of this funding is also being directed toward renewable energy projects, leveraging Ladakh’s potential in solar and hydropower generation.
The financial support under these schemes is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance electricity availability, reduce losses, and improve the efficiency of the power sector in both Union Territories.
However, the Lok Sabha response did not specify the exact timelines for project completion or provide an update on the progress of implementation. (KNO)
