Satish Sharma for evolving robust mechanism to ensure prompt delivery of DLs

Jammu, Feb 17: Minister for FCS& CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology, Science and Technology, ARI & Training, Satish Sharma, Monday chaired a meeting to review the functioning of Motor Vehicles Department here.
Secretary Transport Department, Neeraj Kumar; MD JKRTC, Rakesh Kumar Srangal; Transport Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan; RTO Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra; RTO Kashmir, Kazi Irfan besides ARTOs from different districts and senior officials were present in the meeting.
The Transport Commissioner gave a brief presentation on e-challaning, establishment of RTDCs/DTCs and ICC, action against traffic violators, RSVF, VLTP, printing of Driving Licenses, rules related to E- rickshaws and other allied matters.
The Minister emphasised the need for evolving a robust mechanism to ensure prompt delivery of driving licenses to the general public. He also asked for raising the Driving Training Centres (DTC’s) in far flung districts both in Jammu and Kashmir division so that the facility is made available to the desirous applicants at their door step.
Regarding traffic violations, the Minister emphasised upon MVD and traffic police to work together in order to curb this menace.
Regarding e-rickshaws, the Minister exhorted that persons with only valid driving licence should be registered and given the e-rickshaws and strict action should be initiated against those violating the rules.
Satish Sharma also issued instructions for intensifying road checking in all the districts. He asked the officers to ensure that the offenders are booked as per provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The Minister asked the RTOs/ARTOs to make road checking a routine feature with focus on speed limit devices, overloading, overcharging of passenger fare and route violations. He also issued instructions for improving the public delivery system for providing services to the public as per fixed timelines thereby bringing added efficiency into the system.
The Minister asserted that the government under the leadership of CM Omar Abdullah is committed to facilitate people at their doorsteps. He assured government’s unwavering support to the officers in line of discharging their duties with utmost dedication and integrity.
