Don’t delay wages?

The work in the government offices is equal for the casual labourers, daily wagers as well as for the permanent government employees, but the poor employees always get a different attitude from the people at the helm as their salaries or wages are always being delayed, thus leaving them to lurch at large. Unlike the daily wagers, the salaries of the government’s permanent employees in Jammu and Kashmir are being released always on time. Nonetheless, one fails to understand why the daily wagers and casual labourers despite receiving meagre amounts as wages are being pushed to the wall. Despite the work remaining equal for the daily wagers, casual labourers and the permanent government employees, the government’s behaviour towards these poor employees remains from time to time due to the withholding of salaries or wages almost every year for months together. The million dollar question remains how long these poor employees are supposed to witness such a situation. On Monday morning, the daily wagers, casual labourers under the banner of Kashmir Public health Engineering Joint Employees Association (KPHEJEA) assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave to press for their demands, which is none other than the release of pending wages. As the withholding of salaries remains a frequent and repeated issue in Jammu and Kashmir, the questions being asked about the delay also remain unanswered. The government must put an end to such frequent delays and ensure that the poor employees who are working at par with the permanent employees in different departments are not forced to face hardships in absence of the timely wages. The government must consider releasing the wages of poor casual labourers and daily wagers on time.
