Chilla-Bacha likely to bring major snowfall of this season

Srinagar, Feb 24: Chilla-Bacha (Small Cold)—last phase of harsh winter in Kashmir—is likely to bring a major snowfall of this season.
The weatherman has predicted a 4-day wet spell from Tuesday and issued yellow and orange alerts for Jammu and Kashmir regions till February 28.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rains and snow for the next four days from tomorrow (Tuesday) evening while the intensity would increase on February 27, the weatherman said.
As per the details available, a yellow alert has been issued by the local Meteorological department (MeT) on February 25 and 26 across Jammu and Kashmir. An orange alert has been issued for February 27 for both J&K while one February 28, an orange alert has been issued for Jammu and yellow alert for Kashmir region.
Isolated heavy rain and snow is expected during the period while the surface traffic may also be witnessed, reads the advisory issued by the MeT.
Generally cloudy weather is expected for the next four days as there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snow at most places towards February 25th evening and night to February 28 late night with isolated heavy rain and snow over both Kashmir division & Jammu division during the above period, Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said.
On March 01 and March 02, the light rain and snow is expected at scattered to fairly widespread places, he said, adding that an active Western Disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow.
“There are expectations that the next four days would witness the major snowfall of this season. The major intensity is expected between February 27 and 28,” he said.
Furthermore, an Independent Weather Forecaster, Aadil Maqbool, said that as per current indications, very heavy snowfall is expected over higher reaches like Sinthan Top, Peer ki Gali, Razdan Top, Zojila Pass, Sonamarg, Gulmarg, Baltal Pahalgam and other upper reaches along with heavy rainfall over plains of Jammu and Kashmir.
Snowfall is also possible over plains of Kashmir, he said.
