Shopian, Mar 21: In observance of World Forest Day, a mega plantation drive was organized Friday at Zawoora by Forest Division Shopian under the leadership of the Divisional Forest Officer, Abid Ali Lone.
The Plantation Drive was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta who on the occasion appreciated the significance of conducting massive afforestation drives in the district.
DC impressed upon all residents of the district to commit to plantation activities this season and contribute towards environmental sustainability along with reaping economic benefits.
The event witnessed active participation from the DFO Shopian, Deputy Director, FPF Shopian, Range Officer Shopian, and other officials from the Forest Department.
The plantation drive aimed to enhance green cover and promote environmental conservation in the area.The Forest Department has planted 3.6 lakhs trees across the district this year for afforestation purposes to enhance the green cover.
Addressing the gathering, officials emphasized the critical role of afforestation in combating climate change and maintaining ecological balance.
