Jammu, Mar 22: The Speaker of Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Saturday announced formation of a House committee to probe into irregularities in implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the Union Territory.
The Speaker announced formation of the House committee after Minister for Public Health & Forests, Environment Javed Rana replied to discussion on grants of departments headed by him.
“During discussion, members from both Treasury Benches as well as Opposition wanted formation of a House Committee to investigate into the matter. I don’t think the minister should have any reservation to formation of the Committee. If the House wants a probe into it, it should be done,” he said, adding that the House is supreme.
Though the Speaker winded up proceedings, BJP MLA Sunil Sharma demanded that there should be a debate over the matter.
“Since morning the issue was being debated,” Rather replied.
Talking to reporters outside the Assembly secretariat, Minister Javed Rana said that there is no wrong in constitution of a House committee to investigate the claims of irregularities in JJM.
During the discussion on grants of PHE department, several MLAs demanded a thorough probe into implementation of JJM scheme.
Congress Legislature Party leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir termed JJM as a major scam and demanded a thorough probe into it.
Another party legislator Nizamuddin Bhat said that a former administrative secretary has alleged a scam in its implementation.
He demanded the constitution of a House committee to probe these claims.
NC MLA Aijaz Jan even demanded a probe by NIA and CBI into JJM implementation in J&K. (KNO)
