Kashmir’s next revolution will rise from its fields

Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

Two significant occasions stand out for Muslim devotees across Jammu and Kashmir—Shab-e-Qadr and Juma-tul-Vida. These nights and days are of immense spiritual importance, offering an opportunity for reflection, prayer, and seeking blessings. However, for the faithful, these sacred moments are often accompanied by challenges in accessing basic facilities that can support their religious duties, particularly in crowded Masjids and prayer grounds. It is essential, now more than ever, for the authorities to ensure that the necessary infrastructure and services are in place to provide a seamless, dignified experience for the worshippers, enabling them to focus on their prayers and reflections without unnecessary distractions. Shab-e-Qadr, the “Night of Power,” is believed to be the night when the Quran was revealed and is one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar. Similarly, Juma-tul-Vida, the last Friday of Ramadhan, holds great significance for Muslims, with special prayers, sermons, and acts of charity. On these occasions, Masjids and shrines across the region witness an influx of devotees, often surpassing regular attendance, as the faithful gather for collective worship. Unfortunately, overcrowding, inadequate facilities, and logistical hurdles often turn what should be a spiritual experience into an ordeal. At this juncture, the administration and local authorities must prioritize the provision of better facilities for Muslim devotees across Jammu and Kashmir. These occasions hold immense spiritual and communal significance, and ensuring that the faithful have access to essential services and a safe, comfortable environment will allow them to fully immerse themselves in worship without undue stress or distraction. A coordinated effort, combining the resources of the government, religious leaders, and community organizations, can help make Ramadhan’s final days truly special for all devotees in the region.
