Srinagar, Mar 26: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 1,539 drug-related cases in 2024, while 2,158 accused were arrested by the law enforcement agencies.
According to data, numbers have decreased from 2023, when 2,149 cases were reported and 3,072 accused were held.
Despite a slight drop in cases compared to 2023, drug addiction remains a serious concern in Jammu and Kashmir. The UT has consistently reported over 1,500 cases annually, reflecting the deep-rooted narcotics problem.
According to the officials to combat the crisis, the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) is being implemented in J&K, supporting rehabilitation and awareness programs.
For Jammu and Kashmir, the government did not provide a detailed breakdown of beneficiaries under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR). However, it did report that 3,25,680 outpatients and 57,061 inpatients were treated in drug de-addiction centers running in government hospitals across the country.
Meanwhile, Ladakh reported zero drug cases or arrests in 2024, marking an unusual contrast to the rising drug menace in its neighboring UT.
