New Delhi, Apr 2: Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel on Wednesday informed Parliament that Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have received a total of 59 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Program (LHDCP).
Of these, 50 MVUs are operational in Jammu & Kashmir, while 9 are functioning in Ladakh, providing essential veterinary services to farmers in remote areas.
As per the data, Jammu & Kashmir currently has 50 operational MVUs under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Program (LHDCP), benefiting farmers and treating livestock in remote areas.
Prof. Singh Baghel said that the central government has been supporting these MVUs as part of efforts to improve veterinary healthcare access for farmers at their doorsteps. “The program has been effective, with a total of 4,016 MVUs operational across India, including Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. These units have benefitted millions of farmers, providing essential veterinary services, especially in areas with limited access to traditional veterinary hospitals.”
“In Ladakh, 9 MVUs have been operationalized, catering to the region’s unique needs. Both UTs have received substantial funding for these initiatives, with Jammu & Kashmir alone receiving Rs 13.33 crore for the operation of 50 MVUs,” the data reads. (KNO)
