Jammu, Apr 6: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening, marking the start of his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir — his first since the National Conference, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, took charge of the Union Territory in October last year.
Shah was received at the technical airport by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior BJP leaders. During his visit, the Home Minister is expected to review both the security landscape and the status of developmental initiatives in the region.
On Sunday night, Shah will attend a meeting with BJP legislators and party office-bearers at the party’s Trikuta Nagar headquarters. His visit coincides with BJP’s Foundation Day, which was celebrated earlier in the day with enthusiasm by party workers.
Security agencies have been placed on high alert to ensure smooth proceedings during Shah’s visit, officials confirmed.
On Monday, April 7, Shah will travel to the Border Security Force (BSF) outpost ‘Vinay’ in Kathua to assess the ground situation at the India-Pakistan border. Later in the day, he is slated to meet the families of J&K Police martyrs at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu and distribute appointment letters to some of them selected on compassionate grounds.
Shah’s itinerary for April 8 includes a high-level meeting at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar to review development programmes across the UT. This will be followed by another meeting focusing on the overall security scenario in the region. (KNS)
