CRPF observes Valour Day in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 9: In conformity with the cherished tradition and supreme sacrifice of Brave hearts in reverence, the “Valour Day’ celebrated at Group Centre, CRPF, Srinagar by firstly paying homage to those Brave hearts, who laid down their lives in the altar of duty.
Rajesh Kumar, ADG J&K Zone paid the tribute to the Martyrs of the CRPF by laying a wreath at the “Shaheed Samarak”.
A Sainik Sammelan was also organized on this occasion wherein Pawan Kumar Sharma, IG, Srinagar Sector felicitated the martyr’s family and recipients of DG’s Disc & DG’s Commendation Certificate for their outstanding contribution during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2024 and General Parliamentary Election-2024 in an investiture ceremony, a statement issued reads.
Valour day is celebrated every year on 09th April to commemorate the saga of exemplary valour, unparalleled courage and phenomenal fortitude displayed by four companies of 02 Bn, CRPF on 09th April 1965 at Sardar Post and Tonk post of Rann of Kuchh, Gujarat against a full-fledged Brigade attack perpetrated by Pakistan Army.
The Brave hearts of 2nd Bn CRPF had not only repulsed the brigade level attack, but also inflicted heavy casualties on Pakistan Army, neutralising 34 Pakistani soldiers and capturing 04 alive. In this legendary battle 08 brave hearts of CRPF also made supreme sacrifice, leaving behind the trails of exceptional valour and exemplary courage for generations.
On this occasion 01 Veer Nari Dilshada Begum W/O CT/GD Shaheed Rafiq Ahmed Khan of 166 Bn was felicitated with Shawl/bouquet.
A volleyball match was also held between GC, CRPF, Srinagar and Valley QAT. Winners were felicitated by Rajesh Kumar, DIG, GC, CRPF, Srinagar.
Other senior officers and a large number of CRPF personnel and family members residing inside the Campus remained present to witness these day long function.
