End water scarcity

The several areas of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, have been once again facing an acute water scarcity, thus leaving the consumers to lurch at large. The acute water scarcity has forced many villagers in the Valley to hit the streets to press for their demands. However, this scarcity is being witnessed at a time when the government has increased the tariff in Jammu and Kashmir by 10 per cent again. According to the reports, the government has increased the water tariff for its consumers by 800 per cent in the last one decade, thus adding to the miseries of the common consumers. One fails to understand why this scarcity is being witnessed frequently here even after the Valley is having enough water. At a time when the government has been working to supply tap water to all the residents across Jammu and Kashmir, the people at most of the places are facing water scarcity frequently, which is putting a question mark over the government’s process of ensuring tap water to the consumers. The government must consider ensuring 24*7 water supply to the people and direct the concerned authorities to work in tandem and help the people in Srinagar and elsewhere in getting the round-the-clock drinking water supply. The concerned department must direct its employees to put an end to the water scarcity across Jammu and Kashmir so that they (consumers) here could heave a sigh of relief.
