Will approach Centre to seek proper rehabilitation of Pak shelling hit victims: Sinha

Kupwara, May 17: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir Government will approach the Centre to seek help for the rehabilitation of the Pakistan shelling hit victims.
Talking to reporters after visiting Tanghdar sector here in north Kashmir, Lt Governor said, “Administration has made the assessment & immediate assistance has been provided. A few people are left to be rehabilitated. But I feel this help is not enough. I’ve asked Div Com & senior officers to prepare a comprehensive plan so we can request GoI for proper rehabilitation.”
The Lieutenant Governor during his visit to the frontier villages along the Line of Control hit by Pakistan shelling assured the people that the government stands by them and they would be provided all the possible assistance and help.
“I have spoken directly with people to understand their issues. I am thankful to my administration colleagues who remained committed even in tough situations to ease public hardship. Immediate relief has been provided after assessment, but I believe it’s not enough,” LG Sinha said.
Meanwhile, residents urged LG to ensure the construction of underground bunkers for their safety — they appealed to prioritize their protection, especially for families living close to the Line of Control, where shelling poses a serious threat.
“We are poor and don’t want to suffer again. Bunkers are essential now”, affected residents told the Lieutenant Governor.
In a post on X, the LG said that he has directed the district administration Kupwara for timely completion of bunkers through Gram Sabhas. “It’s our collective responsibility to ensure safety and rehabilitation of affected families”.
The Lieutenant Governor also chaired a high level meeting at Kupwara and directed the officers to ensure that victims of Pakistan shelling should be provided all the possible support without any delay. (KNO)
