Eid-ul-Adha in Kashmir: A festive blend of faith, culture, community spirit

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, has become a shining example in the region as the data has listed the district at the top under the District Good Governance Index (DGGI 4.0). The ranking is a proud moment for the people in the district as it is a testament to the transformative power of data-driven governance, citizen-centric service delivery and sustained developmental focus. The DGGI, developed as a tool to evaluate the performance of districts across multiple sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, e-governance and law and order, provides an evidence-based framework to measure outcomes. Srinagar topping the list is no accident as the district administration has been making measurable improvements in public service delivery, ranging from enhanced digital services to improved healthcare infrastructure and education outcomes. Projects aimed at urban beautification, drainage management, and traffic decongestion also contributed to quality-of-life enhancements that go beyond statistics. What makes Srinagar’s performance especially important is its potential to serve as a template for district-led development. As Jammu and Kashmir continues its journey of development and integration, the spotlight on district-level governance has never been more crucial. Going forward, the UT administration must ensure that lessons from Srinagar’s model are documented, shared and scaled. Such a momentum must be maintained through consistent monitoring, community engagement and feedback mechanisms. Srinagar’s achievement is a shining example of what’s possible when governance is made efficient, accountable, and citizen-focused. As the capital district sets the bar, it also carries the responsibility of mentoring and collaborating with peer districts to ensure that progress is not isolated but inclusive.
