Srinagar, May 26: The GR Beigh Memorial Foundation, Government Employees Conference, and NGEWA-SKIMS collectively extend their heartfelt tribute to Ishtiyaq Beigh, who is retiring on 31st of May 2025 after decades of unparalleled service to the people and employees of Jammu and Kashmir.
From the corridors of SKIMS to the national stage at Jantar Mantar, Beigh has stood as a formidable voice advocating for the rights, dignity, and welfare of government employees. His fearless trade union activism and unwavering leadership during protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi served as a turning point in the discourse surrounding the improvement of infrastructure and working conditions at SKIMS. His presence wasn’t merely symbolic; it was transformative.
One of his most profound contributions has been fostering a culture of service through record-setting blood donation drives — the highest among all employee unions. These acts of selflessness speak volumes of his ability to inspire collective action and instill a spirit of giving.
A compassionate leader across communities, Beigh spearheaded numerous free medical camps, transcending geographical and religious boundaries. His efforts reached the displaced Kashmiri Pandit families in Vessu Qazigund, the Sikh community in Chhottugam Tral, and the devout at sacred shrines such as Kheer Bhawani, Sharika Devi, Hari Parbat, Hazratbal, Khanqah-e-Moula, and Dastgeer Sahib. These initiatives brought timely healthcare to hundreds, especially the underprivileged and underserved.
As Chairman of the GR Beigh Memorial Foundation, his leadership was deeply rooted in empathy, justice, and inclusivity. His tenure has not only uplifted employee welfare but also championed interfaith harmony and humanitarian outreach, becoming a model for trade unionism driven by purpose and people-first values.
As he steps down from his official role, Beigh leaves behind a legacy that is not measured merely in years, but in impact, integrity, and inspiration. His work will continue to echo in the halls of SKIMS, in the hearts of employees, and in every life touched by his vision and dedication.
We salute Ishtiyaq Beigh — a true people’s leader, a bridge-builder, and a relentless champion of justice.
