Pahalgam, May 27: In a heartfelt appeal to both domestic and international tourists, National Conference President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday urged people to shed all apprehensions and visit the Kashmir Valley, which he described as “as peaceful as any other place in the world”.
Speaking to reporters at the scenic town of Pahalgam, Dr Farooq Abdullah, acknowledged that the recent terror attack briefly dampened the region’s vibrant atmosphere but reassured that peace and normalcy are steadily returning.
“Yes, an unfortunate incident took place recently, and it shook us all. But that should not overshadow the overall environment of peace that currently prevails. Tourists were coming in large numbers, hotels were packed, and people were earning their livelihood with dignity, not relying solely on government employment,” he said.
Highlighting Kashmir’s immense potential as a global tourist destination, the NC chief said, “This place is paradise on earth. I’ve travelled across the globe, but nowhere have I seen natural beauty that matches Kashmir. Especially for golf lovers, this region offers a unique experience amid stunning landscapes.”
Dr Abdullah called for conflict resolution through dialogue, rather than violence, saying it is the only viable path, whether in the context of India-Pakistan relations or global conflicts like the Ukraine-Russia war.
“Let me be clear—I am not anyone’s agent. But history teaches us that every lasting resolution has come through talks, not war,” he asserted.
Urging citizens from across the country to visit Kashmir and witness its charm firsthand, the former CM said, “If we live in fear, we stop truly living. Unity is built through trust, and visiting Kashmir is a step toward strengthening our collective national spirit.”
Expressing optimism about the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, he said, “This pilgrimage is a sacred tradition for generations. I hope devotees will come in large numbers, seek blessings from Lord Shiva, and carry with them a message of peace, harmony, and hospitality that this land is known for.”
Referring to a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Pahalgam, Dr Farooq called it a strong symbol of unity and confidence.
“The presence of the entire cabinet here sends a clear message. We must engage with local stakeholders – ponywallahs and hoteliers – whose livelihoods have been impacted. They are vital to sustaining our tourism ecosystem,” he said.
Dr Abdullah added, “Kashmir stands ready to welcome the world—not with fear, but with open arms and a promise of peace.”
