Srinagar, May 29: In a push toward environmental awareness and sustainability, the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, Jammu and Kashmir, continues to spearhead a wide-ranging campaign in observance of World Environment Day. Across various districts, Block Officers conducted massive sanitation-cum-cleanliness drives, with the central message: “Say No to Plastic” and “End Plastic Pollution.”
The campaign witnessed active participation from panchayat members, school children, volunteers, and civil society groups. Streets, public places, and market areas were cleaned, while plastic waste was collected and disposed of safely. The efforts aimed to instill behavioral change and encourage sustainable practices in both urban and rural settings.
Director of Rural Sanitation, Anoo Malhotra, lauded the efforts of field officials and the community for their overwhelming response to the initiative. “This campaign is not just symbolic—it reflects a growing commitment to protect our environment from the menace of plastic,” she said.
Colorful banners, placards, and slogans such as “Beat Plastic Pollution,” “Clean Earth, Green Earth,” and “Plastic-Free Villages” drew public attention and inspired collective action.
Officials also distributed reusable cloth bags and educational material on the harmful effects of plastic waste.
More activities including plantation drives, eco-awareness rallies, and educational sessions are scheduled in the coming days under the ongoing campaign, which has been widely appreciated across the UT.
The Directorate has reiterated its call to citizens to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and join hands in building a cleaner, greener Jammu and Kashmir.
