Jammu, May 31: In a move aimed at strengthening its legislative team and party structure in the union territory, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced key appointments of its MLAs.
Samba MLA Surjit Singh Salathia and Udhampur West MLA Pawan Gupta have been appointed as Deputy Leaders of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly. Jasrota MLA Rajiv Jasrotia has been named the Chief Whip of the party, a BJP spokesperson said.
The appointments were made by J&K BJP President Sat Sharma in consultation with BJP National President J. P. Nadda, National General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santhosh, and National General Secretary and J&K In-charge Tarun Chugh.
Suchetgarh MLA Gharu Ram Bhagat and Jammu East MLA Yudhvir Sethi will serve as the party’s whips, while Bahu MLA Choudhary Vikram Randhawa has been appointed as Secretary.
Jammu West MLA Arvind Gupta has been given the role of Treasurer. Meanwhile, Chenani MLA Balwant Mankotia and Doda West MLA Shakti Raj Parihar will serve as party spokespersons.
“These appointments reflect the BJP’s commitment to empowering its legislative team and ensuring effective representation of public interests in the assembly,” the spokesperson said. “The party remains dedicated to responsive, accountable, and development-oriented governance in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Reacting to his appointment, Rajiv Jasrotia expressed gratitude to the party leadership and said he would work to uphold BJP’s principles and ensure discipline among party legislators.
“As Chief Whip, my role will be to maintain cohesion within the legislative group and ensure members follow the party’s voting directions,” Jasrotia said, pledging to raise public issues in the assembly and hold the government accountable to its promises.
He also assured that he would work to address the genuine concerns of all communities across the union territory. (KINS)
