Srinagar, Jun 1: The Meteorological Department has predicted another spell of rain and thunderstorms in Jammu and Kashmir between June 2 and 3.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that the weather on Sunday will remain partly to generally cloudy with chances of brief showers and gusty winds at many places towards the afternoon.
He said that from June 2 to 3, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected to be scattered to many locations across the Union Territory.
Director MET also said that there is possibility of gusty winds and lightning on the evening of June 2.
Dr. Mukhtar said, between June 4 and 6, the weather is expected to stay mostly dry, although some isolated places may witness brief showers or rain towards the late afternoon.
For June 7 and 8, the MeT forecast remains similar, with generally dry weather and isolated chances of light rain or thundershower in the afternoon, he said.
Light to moderate rainfall was recorded at most places across J&K in the past 24 hours. Higher reaches also received light snowfall. Notably, Pahalgam recorded 36.8 mm of rainfall while Banihal recorded 34.3 mm. Gusty winds were observed in Baramulla (31 km/h), Jammu (54 km/h), and Kathua (64 km/h), Dr. Mukhtar said.
MeT Centre has advised the public to remain cautious, especially during the evening hours of June 2 when thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely. People have been asked to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, wires, and old trees to avoid any mishaps. (JKNS)
