Eid-ul-Adha: Experts urge environmentally responsible disposal of animal waste

Srinagar, Jun 2: Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, Jammu and Kashmir Wakf Board Chairperson Dr Darakhshan Andrabi has appealed to the public to uphold cleanliness during the festival by responsibly disposing of the waste from sacrificial animals.
In a public message, Dr Andrabi urged people not to throw sacrificial remains on roads or in public dustbins, warning that such actions not only defile public spaces but also attract stray dogs, leading to unhygienic conditions.
“I humbly request everyone to dig a pit and bury the sacrificial waste on the same spot. It is not Islamic to throw animal remains in the open where dogs feed on them and public places become filthy,” Dr Andrabi said.
She expressed confidence that the people, especially the younger generation who are more conscious of both religious practices and environmental concerns, would set an example by ensuring proper disposal of the remains.
“This is a matter of faith and civic responsibility. We expect a positive response, especially from our youth who are aware of Islamic teachings about hygiene and public welfare,” she added.
Warning of strict measures, Dr Andrabi announced that those found littering roads with sacrificial waste will face fines. She said the Wakf Board, in collaboration with local authorities, will monitor the situation to ensure the sanctity and cleanliness of public spaces during Eid.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the festival of sacrifice, will be celebrated on June 7. [KNT]
