Kudos to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for flagging off the first-ever direct train to Kashmir—marking what many hope will be a turning point for the region’s travel and economy.
The Vande Bharat Express is seen as a triumph of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. Travel to Kashmir has always been on the dream list of so many as Kashmir is known for its breathtaking landscapes, snow-covered mountains, and peaceful valleys, that is one of the most popular destinations in India.
Now, Vande Bharat Express has come into play by promises a comfortable, fast, and affordable journey to the valley, making travel easier than ever. Over the past 11 years, the government has taken consistent and focused steps to strengthen railway infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir. There is something magical about the Kashmir Valley that captures the imagination of every traveller. Kashmir’s tourism industry has long been a vital part of its economy. With its snow-capped mountains and rich culture, it has always felt like a world apart.
The region, known for its stunning landscapes, peaceful lakes and snow-capped mountains, once attracted visitors from all over the world. People of Kashmir has waited years for this train as Road travel was inconvenient because of the unpredictability and discomfort and this train is really a game-changer for the people of Kashmir.
Vande Bharat Express between Srinagar and Katra has drawn praise from passengers, many of whom described the new service as offering “unmatched convenience,” making travel “much easier”, “possible and comfortable,” while hailing it as a “great move by the government” to connect Kashmir with the rest of India.Vande Bharat trains are built for speed, comfort and efficiency, the Kashmir version adds a fourth defining feature: resilience. It’s not just a symbol of progress, but also a proof of Indian engineering rising to meet the nation’s most demanding challenges.
It will reduce travel time significantly, what makes them feel it is set to revitalize Kashmir’s tourism industry is the fact that it provides improved connectivity and affordable travel options for visitors across India. The government has reshaped the railway landscape of Jammu and Kashmir with vision and resolve.
In a historic moment earlier in the day, PM Modi has dedicated to the nation the engineering marvel that is the Chenab Bridge — the highest railway bridge in the world, connecting the remote villages of Bakkal and Kauri in Reasi district. Now Kashmir is fully integrated. You can see this beauty. The train service will now boost both tourism and economic activities in Kashmir by offering a quicker and more comfortable means of travel to both locals and tourists who were eagerly awaiting for a smoother, faster journey between these two iconic cities.
The new service not only connects Jammu to Kashmir via a rail link but also Kashmir to the rest of India for the first time and it ewill help to revive the tourism industry which has been hit badly by the Pahalgam terror attack, remains the equally significant factor in time to come and it will boost tourism and make Kashmir more accessible.
Designed specifically for the harsh climate and unique terrain of the Valley, this winter-hardened variant is packed with custom innovations that make it unlike any other Vande Bharat train in the nation. Compared to the other 136 Vande Bharat Express trains currently running in different parts of the country, this train has several additional features to meet operational challenges and passengers’ needs in the extreme weather conditions of Jammu & Kashmir. More than just a transport service, the Vande Bharat Express is seen as a major step in revitalizing tourism in Kashmir, symbolizing a return to normalcy after years of challenges. Augmenting the Kashmir valley’s connectivity to the national railway network, this train symbolises India’s commitment to bridging geographical and economic gaps.
There is no doubt that this initiative will certainly help to revive the tourism industry which has been hit badly by the Pahalgam terror attack, remains the equally significant factor in time to come. Complete electrification, upgraded stations, and focused budget support have further strengthened this momentum.
