Ganderbal, Jun 14: The innovative “Democracy on Wheels” campaign, spearheaded by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Jammu & Kashmir, Saturday reached Ganderbal, as part of its mission to deepen the electoral literacy across the Union Territory. The state-of-the-art IEC Vanity Van was stationed at the bustling Entrepreneurship mela, attracting the students, entrepreneurs and local citizens.
Deputy Commissioner and Additional District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, personally visited the campaign vehicle, engaging with the attendees and underscoring the administration’s commitment to participatory democracy. Their presence highlighted the significance of voter awareness as a cornerstone of civic empowerment, especially among the youth and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The IEC Van, equipped with a high-resolution LED screen, interactive kiosks and dynamic audio-visual systems, drew crowds with compelling content viz. documentaries on electoral processes and voter rights; animated videos demystifying registration and ethical voting, also showcasing women’s pivotal role in democracy.
Demonstrators from the CEO’s Office facilitated lively sessions, addressing the queries on voter enrolment and the importance of informed voting.
Pertinent to mention, this special campaign is being executed under the supervision of SVEEP Nodal Officer, Akhtar Hussain Qazi, and Assistant Chief Electoral Officer.
“This mobile initiative bridges the gap between the electoral institutions and the public,” stated Mohammad Altaf Ganie. “By integrating voter awareness into events like the Entrepreneurship Mela, we empower young entrepreneurs not just economically, but civically, ensuring their voices shape Jammu & Kashmir’s future.”
The event reinforced the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative’s goal to boost the voter turnout, particularly among first-time voters and underrepresented communities.
Following impactful stops in Jammu, Budgam and Srinagar, Ganderbal marks the latest milestone in the campaign’s journey.
The “Democracy on Wheels” van continues to redefine electoral literacy, merging technology with grassroots engagement to foster a robust democratic culture.
