Srinagar, Jun 20: Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, has been witnessing an upward trend in the maximum temperature, breaking the two years old record for the second consecutive day on Friday.
The station has recorded the hottest day of the season again with the mercury settling at 35.5 degree Celsius.
“Today’s temperature has been the highest in the last 20 years. It was the hottest June day today since 25, June 2005 as the mercury settled at 35.5 degrees,” Independent Weather Forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng said.
Earlier on Thursday, Srinagar recorded 35.2 degree Celsius, surpassing the previous records of two decades.
Moreover, Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees, Pahalgam recorded 30.0 degrees while Kupwara, Kokernag and Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded a day temperature of 34.1 degrees, 33.6 degrees and 25.2 degrees respectively.
Jammu stations, however, continued to record below normal temperature today, the data reveals.
In Jammu, the mercury settled at 36.1 degrees, Banihal recorded 30.6 degrees while Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 27.8 degrees, 32.0 degrees and 32.6 degrees respectively.
Meanwhile, the weatherman here has predicted intermittent spells of rains, thundershower at many places with intense showers at few places for the next three days.
“There is a possibility of brief spells of rain, thundershower at scattered places in between June 23 and June 24,” Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said, adding that intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places between June 25 to June 27.
He added that there is a possibility of intermittent rain and thundershower at scattered places from June 28 to June 30th.
Meanwhile, the MeT in its advisory has stated that there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain with intense showers at few places mainly in Jammu division during June 21st, June 22nd and June 25th to 27th.
It further reads that flash floods at few places with landslides, mudslides and shooting stones are also expected.
