Drass, Jul 26: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi Saturday said the Indian Army has raised a new brigade, ‘Rudra’, aimed at strengthening its capability for multi-domain operations. The brigade, he said, will provide both combat and logistics support from a single location when required.
Speaking at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass during the Kargil Vijay Diwas ceremony, General Dwivedi, said Rudra will bring together infantry, mechanised infantry, armoured units, artillery, special forces, and unmanned aerial systems under a unified structure. He added that these units will receive integrated logistical and combat support.
The COAS also announced the formation of a new light commando strike force, ‘Bhairav’, which has been raised to operate along the borders. The unit, he said, has been designed to carry out rapid strikes and maintain pressure on adversaries in sensitive areas.
“The army’s firepower has been increased with the induction of drone platoons in each infantry battalion. Artillery units have been reorganised under ‘Shaktiban’ regiments, equipped with drones, anti-drone systems, and loitering munitions,” he said. “Each regiment will now include a composite battery with these assets.”
General Dwivedi said the Army Air Defence has also been upgraded and is now equipped with indigenous missile systems to counter aerial threats, including missiles and drones.
