Jammu, Jul 28: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said he is expecting the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament.
Talking to the reporters here, Omar said the party won’t go on strike at least till the Monsoon session is ongoing. “We are expecting something in this session. If there is no progress on statehood restoration, then we will talk after that,” he said.
Regarding today’s encounter, Omar termed the reports of the killing of a terrorist involved in the recent Pahalgam attack as a positive development, asserting that security forces, including police and Army, have been pursuing terrorists since the attack took place. “If anyone among those involved has been killed today, it’s a good thing,” he said.
Although it has not been confirmed yet, it is a ‘good thing’ if anyone amongst them has been killed today, he added.
Omar said that while the discussion on Operation Sindoor in Parliament is appreciable, the Pahalgam attack must also be discussed.
“When Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has admitted intelligence and security failures, it is imperative to discuss who has been held accountable,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister visited the bereaved family of Gujjar youth, Parvez Ahmad, who was killed in crossfire when police were chasing suspected peddlers. Omar was accompanied by his Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani and Minister Javid Rana.
The CM had earlier called for an impartial and time-bound probe into the incident.
