Rather conducts surprise inspection of Legislature Hostel Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 12: Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather Tuesday conducted surprise inspection of Legislature Hostel Srinagar to gather first-hand appraisal of all ongoing development and upgradation works at hostel for the facilitation of legislators.
Secretary Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandita; Executive Engineers of various wings; senior officers of Legislative Assembly Secretariat and other concerned officers also accompanied the Speaker during the visit.
During the inspection, the Speaker toured various sections of the New Block of the hostel, assessing the pace and quality of civil works, infrastructure improvements and other facilities. He directed the concerned executing agencies to maintain high standards of workmanship and adhere strictly to the stipulated timelines. He stressed that public resources must be utilized efficiently and works executed in a manner that reflects both quality and durability.
The Speaker also directed the concerned executive agency to renovate the rooms damaged recently in fire incident on immediate basis. He also took strong notice of lackadaisical approach in construction of compound wall which was damaged during 2014 floods.
Later, the Speaker also chaired a brief meeting to review the functioning of Legislature Hostel.
Speaking during the meeting, the Speaker instructed the management of the hostel to ensure proper upkeep, regular maintenance and modern amenities in the hostel to meet contemporary requirements of the legislators. “Legislators are the face of the democracy and public and they need necessary facilities with dignity they deserve”, he stated.
He also underlined that the improvements in functioning of hostel will not only benefit the legislators but also uphold the dignity of the institution they serve.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the Speaker also took stock of various issues of employees of Legislature Hostel. He directed the officers of Assembly Secretariat for timely conduct of DPC meetings of eligible staff members. He also called upon the officers to maintain proper discipline in the hostel and ensure proper uniform code for the staff.
