Kulgam, Sep 14: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi ud-Din Bhat Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the arrangements for smooth transportation of fruit crops to outside of the Valley at Mini-Secretariat here.
Speaking during the meeting, the DDC directed the officials to strictly enforce traffic diversion plans especially during the peak fruit season. He impressed upon the officers to sensitize officials at checking points for better regulation and management of traffic for smooth passage of fruit trucks.
Dr. Bilal stressed upon the officials to devise a mechanism for special marking of fruit trucks with proper signs and marks so that they can be facilitated for smooth passage on National Highway. He asked them to maintain a proper time schedule for inbound and outbound traffic besides regular monitoring of the critical points.
Highlighting the need for effective coordination, Dr Bilal impressed upon the officers to form a team of officials at various checkpoints in districts for identification of fruit trucks and their proper passage.
He also directed the ARTO Kulgam to explore the possibility of an application cum portal where fruit trucks can register themselves.
On the occasion, the representatives of fruit mandies raised several issues with the DDC regarding fruit crops and other issues.
The DDC assured them that all their genuine issues will be looked into and addressed on priority.
The meeting was attended by ADC Kulgam, Addl. SP Kulgam, ARTO Kulgam, DySP traffic Kulgam/Qazigund, Area Marketing Officer Kulgam, Tehsildar Kulgam, President Fruit Growers association, different Transport Union operators of district and officers from trade union.
