Srinagar, Aug 14: Health and Medical Education Minister, Sakeena Itoo on Thursday said the government is set to reshuffle doctors in various parts of the valley, particularly north Kashmir, following similar measures already implemented in south Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters during a surprise inspection of Community Health Centre (CHC) Pattan, Itoo, said she had received multiple complaints about the functioning of the facility.
“It has been observed across health institutions that doctors supposed to be on duty as per roster often remain absent during night hours and even in the daytime, after reaching an understanding with colleagues,” she said.
The minister said doctors who have served in one place for over four years will be shifted as part of efforts to streamline services. “We have already ensured reshuffles in several South Kashmir hospitals, now it’s time for others, especially in north Kashmir,” she said.
Expressing concern over the absence of consultants during evening and night hours, with only internees present, Itoo said such practices will not be tolerated.
“We are committed to improving the existing health scenario. If there are no doctors and no equipment, what is the purpose of upgrading facilities and cutting ribbons? Upgradation should follow the availability of adequate manpower and equipment,” she added. (KNO)
